FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Grenada, Mississippi – June 18, 2024 – The Carlos Moore Law Group is calling for the immediate release of all video evidence related to the incident involving Latone Myrick Jr., a student at Threadgill Elementary School, which occurred on January 31, 2024. The demand comes as part of ongoing legal action against Leflore County, the Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District, Threadgill Elementary School, and teacher Cornelius Peoples for the injuries and damages sustained by Latone Myrick Jr.
The incident in question involved a physical altercation between Myrick and his first-period teacher, Cornelius Peoples. During this altercation, it is alleged that Mr. Peoples shoved Myrick, threw him to the ground, sat on him, and choked him until a campus officer intervened. As a result of this incident, Latone Myrick Jr. has suffered significant physical and psychological injuries.
The legal claims against the defendants include, but are not limited to, gross negligence, negligent/intentional infliction of emotional distress, reckless disregard, and negligent/gross negligent supervision, hiring, training, and retention of administrative staff and other individuals involved.
The Carlos Moore Law Group asserts that the release of video evidence is crucial for a fair and transparent resolution of this case. The evidence will provide an objective account of the events that transpired and is essential for ensuring justice for Latone Myrick Jr.
“Our client has endured significant physical and emotional trauma as a result of this incident,” said Carlos Moore, founding attorney at the Carlos Moore Law Group. “We demand the immediate release of all video evidence to provide a clear and unbiased account of what occurred. Transparency is paramount in this case, and the public deserves to know the truth.”
