Grenada, MS, May 23, 2024 — Carlos Moore Law Group, a distinguished civil rights law firm, has initiated legal proceedings by filing a federal lawsuit against the Senatobia Police Department on behalf of Shanterra Jackson, an African American woman who was subjected to a severe violation of her civil rights during a traffic stop on August 25, 2023. The lawsuit, demanding $10 million in compensatory damages, holds the Senatobia Police Department accountable for multiple human rights violations.
The distressing incident transpired when Ms. Jackson, a passenger in a vehicle pulled over by a Sardis police officer, was met with unwarranted aggression. The officer forced Ms. Jackson and her companion out of the car without providing a valid reason for the stop. Subsequently, Officer McNeil from the Senatobia Police Department arrived at the scene, detained Ms. Jackson without probable cause, and took her to a wooded area where he sexually assaulted her after turning off his body camera.
As a result of this traumatic experience, Ms. Jackson has endured significant mental, emotional, and physical trauma, underscoring the need for accountability and justice for the egregious actions of the Senatobia Police Department.
